Let's face facts - you're either a morning person or you're not.
Some people work best during the day, others are most productive during the night.
And the same goes for horses.
It's not a very well-known fact but having looked into equine behavioural science for a number of years (and without going into it too much), there are strong reasons why some horses don't run so well and it's not just 'having a bad day'
It's largely down to the time of day a particular horse runs.
Horses are famously temperamental and they are so many factors which can put them off their 'A Game'.
And LIGHT CONDITIONS have proven to be SIGNIFICANT.
To put it simply whilst some don't enjoy cold nights on the track, and as odd as it seems, being herd/prey animals means they prefer to be at home before night (that's right, horses can be afraid of the dark too!).
They often don't take too kindly to artificial lighting either.
Floodlights account for 40% of the year's racing and certain breeds don't take too well to it.
Which accounts for a high-percentage of losses to the unaware punter.
